Allan Gunnerson was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in cultural geography and international relations at the University of Utah, and Master’s and Doctorate degrees in college and university administration at Brigham Young University.
As an educator his career has been with the LDS Church Educational System (CES), including nearly 37years as an institute instructor and administrator. He has been the director of the institute of religion at the University of Utah, San Diego State University, and Grossmont Community College. He currently is the director of the institute of religion at LDS Business College. He has taught BYU adult education classes and participated in the Know Your Religion lecture series.
Outside of his career in CES, he has consulted in the area of compensation management and served in various community capacities. He currently serves as chairman of the board for a large credit union.
He is married to the former Vicki Peterson, and they are the parents of seven children and have ten grandchildren. They have directed tours to various parts of the world for more than twenty-five years, including the eastern U.S. (LDS and American history), Europe, the Orient, and the Middle East.
