Days 1-2: Friday and Saturday, December 17-18 U.S.A. • Transatlantic
Flight • Jerusalem We will take flights from our various home cities, change
planes in Atlanta, (if possible) and arrive the following late afternoon at the
Ben Gurion Airport. This airport is near New Testament Lydda, where Peter healed
Aeneas and then went to Jaffa, where he raised Tabitha from the dead. Entering
the historic city of Jerusalem will be a highlight. We'll check in to the Olive
Tree Hotel for four nights. We will have dinner at the hotel and a group
sacrament meeting.
Day 3: Sunday, December 19 Masada • Dead Sea • Qumran
• Judean Wilderness We will have an early departure from Jerusalem to Masada.
A cable car will take us to the top, where we will see the ruins of the palace
fortress built by King Herod and recall the story of the Zealots' last stand
against the Romans. Afterward, we will drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point
on the earth's surface. After stopping for a float in the Dead Sea, we will
drive on to Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, beginning in
1947. We will ascend to Jerusalem through the Judean Wilderness (where Jesus
went to be with His Father), partly following the old Roman Road along the Wadi
Kelt. If time allows, we will stop in Bethany to discuss Lazarus and other
events related to Jesus.
Day 3: Monday, December 20 Old City of
Jerusalem We will enter the Old City through the Dung Gate to tour the Temple
Mount or Mount Moriah?site of the temples of Solomon and Herod, the magnificent
Dome of the Rock, and the El Aksa Mosque (if conditions permit). Then we will
visit the Western Wall, a site sacred to Jews today, before visiting the Mount
Ophel ruins. We will then visit the Jewish Quarter, including the Roman Cardo,
and Hezekiah's eighth-century BC Broad Wall. We will go down to the City of
David that includes Hezekiah's Tunnel wading through this exciting
third-of-a-mile historic marvel, and then visiting the true Pool of
Siloam.
Day 4: Tuesday, December 21 New City of Jerusalem •
Bethlehem To understand the connection between biblical and modern Jerusalem,
we will visit the famous Model City of Jerusalem at the Israel Museum, which is
a scale model of Jerusalem as it looked near the time of the Savior, and then
visit the Shrine of the Book (Dead Sea Scrolls). We will drive by the Knesset
(Israel's parliament) on the way to visit the display. We will drive to
Bethlehem (conditions permitting) to see the Church of the Nativity?including
St. Jerome's Grotto, where the Latin Vulgate Bible was completed. We will stop
at Shepherds' Field to recall the events of the Nativity and the scriptural
events that occurred in the area and sing some Christmas hymns. Before ending
the day at the BYU Jerusalem Center with a tour of the facility, we stop at the
Hass pavilion to get another perspective of Old Jerusalem. Day 6: Wednesday,
December 22 Jericho • Beit Shean • Megiddo • Nazareth • Galilee After
checking out of the hotel, we will drive east down to the Jordan River Valley.
If conditions permit, we will see the tel of Old Testament Jericho, where we
will discuss the prophets Joshua and Elisha. We will then drive north up the
Jordan River Valley to Beit Shean, where we will see the impressive ruins of the
New Testament and later periods as well as an Old Testament tel. We will then
drive up the Ein Herod Valley to the historic Jezreel Valley on our way to
Nazareth?the boyhood home of Jesus?where we will reflect on the Savior's early
life as we visit the Nazareth Village. Departing from Nazareth, we will travel
through the hill country of Galilee, passing Cana on our way to the Sea of
Galilee (Kinneret) area. As we will pass through Tiberias?built by Herod Antipas
and named in honor of the Roman emperor?we will make a brief stop at the Galilee
Branch House on our way to Kibbutz Ein Gev, where we will stay for the next two
nights.
Day 7: Thursday, December 23 Capernaum • Mount of Beatitudes •
Banias • Golan Heights Today begins with a boat ride across the Sea of
Galilee to Nof Ginosar. After seeing the Galilee boat, we will visit the ancient
city of Capernaum, which Jesus called “his own city” after His rejection in
Nazareth. We'll then drive to the Mount of Beatitudes, where we will give
peaceful consideration to the Sermon on the Mount while we overlook the Sea of
Galilee. Our next stop will be Tel Dan, where we will walk through a beautiful
nature reserve to the headwaters of the Jordan River. A high point of the day
will be at Banias, ancient Caesarea Philippi. Near this site Peter made his
dramatic declarations. and the Savior promised to give the “keys of the kingdom”
to the Twelve.
We will then ascend the Golan Heights, home of many Druze
people and scene of fierce fighting between Israel and Syria in 1967 and again
in 1973. While there, we will view majestic Mount Hermon and then drive to where
we have a view of the border between Israel and Syria. On our return to Ein Gev,
we will stop at the possible site of Jesus' confrontation with evil spirits that
entered the swineherd. Dinner and overnight on the shores of the sea will help
us remember the peaceful atmosphere of the Galilee. We will have a lecture in
the evening.
Day 8: Friday, December 24 Mount Tabor • Muhraka • Haifa •
Caesarea • Jerusalem After checking out of our lodging, we will circle the
southern end of the Sea of Galilee as we drive to Mount Tabor. We will take
taxis to the top to hear an account of sacred events of the Transfiguration.
We'll stop at Nain, where Jesus brought the widow's son brought back to life. We
will then drive to Muhraka, the traditional site of Elijah's confrontation with
the priests of Baal on Mount Carmel?which offers a magnificent overview of the
Jezreel Valley, the valley of Armageddon. We will continue along the top of
Mount Carmel to Haifa, a modern port of Israel and center of the Baha'i faith.
We will discuss some interesting LDS Church historical events that occurred here
and enjoy a panoramic view of Haifa and its harbor before going down to the old
German Cemetery. Next we will drive along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to
Caesarea, established by Herod the Great and home of Pilate, where Paul was
imprisoned for two years before being sent to Rome. We will drive by Tel Aviv,
the largest, mostly Jewish city in the world, on our way to Jerusalem. We will
check in to the Olive Tree Hotel for our last two nights in the Holy Land. The
day will end with a visit to the Western Wall to watch the Jewish people
celebrate this holiday.
Day 9: Saturday, December 25 Jerusalem • Last 24
Hours of the Savior's Ministry This morning we will begin to visit places
significant during the last week of Jesus' life. Then we will visit the
traditional Upper Room?possible scene of the Last Supper, washing of feet, and
the last teachings of Jesus to His disciples. Our next stop is at St. Peter's in
Gallicantu?possible site of the cock's crowing and palace of Caiaphas. After
sacrament meeting at the center and lunch on our own, we will visit the
beautiful Orson Hyde Memorial Garden for a review of some of the fascinating
history of Jerusalem as we look out over the Old City, followed by our visit to
Gethsemane, where the great atoning sacrifice took place as well as the arrest
of Jesus. We will then walk to Golgotha, where He was crucified and then see the
Garden Tomb we will discuss the Savior's appearances following His resurrection.

What to Expect Morris Murdock will handle most of
the tour preparations for you, however there are still a few things you should
know and some details to take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace
of mind. Please review the information below to ensure that any surprises along
the way will only be pleasant ones.
Airline
Information Group Air Tickets
Where group flights are offered, tickets will be issued
approximately 30 days prior to departure. Morris Murdock Escorted Tours can
assist with domestic flights from your home city to the designated international
gateway city. Electronic tickets will be issued where
possible.
Air Tickets Purchased Independently of the
Tour We urge you to check airline cancellation penalties before
purchasing airline tickets since departure times and flights can change. Tours
may also be cancelled due to low enrollments. Morris Murdock Escorted Tours does
not accept liability for cancellation penalties related to domestic or
international airline tickets purchased independently in conjunction with a
tour. We recommend that you check with us prior to purchasing any airline
tickets.
Seat Assignments: We understand that
your seat assignment is an important part of your tour experience. Each airline
has a different policy regarding pre-assigned seat assignments and we are bound
by their rules. Morris Murdock Escorted Tours will advise the airlines of your
seating preference and will do all possible to secure your seat request. Please
understand that in cases where pre-assigned seats are not available, seats will
be assigned at the airport. We recommend arriving at the airport early to ensure
the best seat selection.
Frequent Flyers: We
will be happy to add your frequent flyer number to any airline reservation
created by Morris Murdock Escorted Tours. Please understand that we are unable
to assist with securing reservations for free or reduced cost frequent flyer
tickets. Please contact your individual airline for assistance. Airline seat
assignments and flight schedules are subject to change without notice.
Baggage Most airlines, for both domestic and
international flights, now charge additional fees for checking bags. These
charges are not included in the tour price and are the traveler's
responsibility. Baggage handling is normally included in the tour price.
Transfers Some tours do not include group
air service. In cases where the tour is designated as “Land Only”, the tour
begins at the airport of the arrival city and ends at the airport of the
departure city. Individual flight schedules should be coordinated to arrive and
depart in connection with the group transfer to and from the hotel. The time of
this transfer will be provided at a later date. Transfers at other times will
require an additional charge. Please contact us at 800-809-9910 for
assistance.
Passport Information All
participants traveling outside of the USA must be in possession of a valid
passport during time of travel. Your passport number, date, place of issue, and
birth date is now required by many foreign governments, airlines and trains, and
may be required to confirm services. Names on your airline tickets must
match the first and last name listed on your passport. Your passport must be
valid for six months after your return to the U.S. If you need assistance
obtaining or renewing your passport, please click here
http://www.us.cibt.com/home.aspx?loggedin=45217-1027200963347 At no time will
Morris Murdock Escorted Tours be responsible in the event you fail to obtain a
passport or valid visa and are unable to travel as a result of it.
Money
The form of
currency in Israel
is the Shekel. You will find that prices are about the same as they are in the
USA. You can buy many small souvenirs
with American dollars ($1's, $5's). In fact, we suggest you bring small bills
with which to bargain. You can purchase food with American money; however, we
suggest you convert some money into shekels. Restaurants tend to charge a little
more if you use dollars.
Traveler's
checks and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) are accepted in
Israel at souvenir shops,
restaurants, and hotels.
Tipping
Tipping is
expected, and not an option in Israel. Salaries are low and taxes
are high (as much as 40% of their salary). You have pre-paid your tips. It is not
necessary to tip the porters or the headwaiters at the hotels. If you would like
to tip a little extra, you may do so at your discretion.
ATM's are widely available and may provide a more favorable exchange rate
than banks.

Communication
Internet service is widely available in your hotels and
at internet cafes throughout the country.
A nominal fee will be charged for
usage.
Please check with your cell-phone provider for information on roaming
charges. Depending on the type of
cell phone you have, you may be able to purchase a local SIM card to insert into
your cell phone and make calls at a much lower rate.
Electricity
The electric current in Israel is 220 Volts AC, single phase,
50 Hertz. You will need an adapter. Most Israeli sockets take the standard
Middle East two pronged (round) adapters. If
your appliance, hair dryer, iron or electric shaver does not convert from 110 to
220 volts, you will need a converter as well. Converters and/or transformers can
be purchased at a variety of stores.
It is wise to make sure when purchasing a converter that the number of
watts on your appliance matches the number of watts on your converter.
Time Zone
The time in Israel is 8 hours ahead of Mountain
Time.
Customs
Your duty-free exemption is $800 if you are a returning
U.S. resident and the items you
acquired abroad accompany you. Articles imported in excess of your exemptions
will be subject to duty. If your purchases and acquisitions exceed the allowable
duty-free exemption plus $1,000, you must itemize in writing these
purchases/acquisitions on the back of the declaration form. Sales slips,
invoices, or other evidence of purchase will be helpful when you complete your
Customs declaration.
Gifts mailed to people in the United States from abroad may be
received by them free of duty if the value of the gift does not exceed $100.
Gifts for more than one person can be consolidated into one package. Each
recipient's name must be clearly marked on the package to be eligible for this
waiver. Non-gift purchases mailed to the United States
will pass duty-free if their value does not exceed $200. The outer wrapping must
be marked with: the fair retail value of the contents; the contents' identity
(e.g., shirts, belts, watch, figurines, etc.); and whether the package is a gift
($100 exemption) or for personal use ($200 exemption).
NOTE:
Duty
owed on a mailed package must be paid after it arrives in the
United
States. No matter what a shop owner abroad may
tell you, you cannot prepay duty.
Health Standards
Sanitation standards are much higher than in any other Middle Eastern
country, and no shots are required.
However, please check with your medical provider for special needs. The
water is safe to drink, and medical facilities, while not quite up to
United
States standards, are more than adequate. The government requires that at least
one pharmacy in each neighborhood be open or on call at all times; a list is
published weekly in the English-language “Jerusalem Post.” Medication is allowed to be brought into
the country; however, all medication should be properly labeled and in their
pharmacy bottles if possible.
We often quote and feel like President Spencer W. Kimball who said that
“every Latter-day Saint should visit the Holy Land.” He said, “It helped me and
I know that it would help you to visit the land of Israel, which is one of the
greatest highlights in an individual's life.” We love the land and the people,
and we find so much gratification in taking others to this special place and in
sharing with them my knowledge and feelings. James D. Mathews was born in
