Days 1-2: Monday and Tuesday, April 4 and 5 U.S.A. • Transatlantic
Flight • Tel Aviv, Israel We will take a morning flight from our various
U.S.A. homes and change planes en-route to Tel Aviv. We will arrive the
following midday at the Ben Gurion Airport—which is near New Testament Lydda,
where Peter healed Aeneas. We will visit Jaffa, where Peter received the
important revelation about taking the gospel to the Gentiles. We will check in
to the Marina Hotel, where we will have our group meeting before retiring for
the night.
Day 3: Wednesday, April 6 Tel Aviv • Caesarea • Haifa •
Muhraka • Nazareth We will drive through Tel Aviv, the largest Jewish
metropolitan area in the world, and then north along the coast of the
Mediterranean Sea to the Roman New Testament seaside capital, Caesarea. Here in
the ancient Roman theater, we will study the biblical events that happened in
this place. We will then drive to Haifa (modern port of Israel and center of the
Baha'i faith), stop for a view, and recount some LDS Church history related to
this area. We will drive along the top of Mount Carmel to Muhraka, the
traditional site of Elijah's confrontation with the prophets of Baal, to enjoy a
view of the Jezreel Valley and talk about the importance of this valley both
anciently and now. We will then drive to the lovely city of Nazareth, the
boyhood home of Jesus, where we will visit the Nazareth Village (developed to
show life as it existed at the time of Jesus) and briefly reflect on His early
life. Passing through the Beit Netofa Valley and the remains of biblical Cana,
we will drive to the western shore of the Sea of Galilee for a two nights' stay
at Nof Ginosar Kibbutz in the very area of Jesus' Galilean ministry.
Day
4: Thursday, April 7 Sea of Galilee • Capernaum • Mount of Beatitudes • Tel Dan
• Banias • Golan Heights We will begin our day by having an exhilarating boat
ride across the Sea of Galilee. Then we will visit Capernaum, the center of
Jesus' Galilean ministry, where He performed many miracles and gave many
teachings, including His “Bread of Life” sermon. We will pass St. Peter's
Primacy on our way to the Mount of Beatitudes, where the important Sermon on the
Mount will be discussed. We will pass Hazor on our way to Tel Dan, the ancient
northern limits of Israel (“from Dan to Beersheba”), to enjoy a beautiful nature
walk and to see this historic tel. We'll continue on to Banias at the foot of
Mount Hermon, which is ancient Caesarea Philippi, the site of Peter's testimony
of the Savior. This is where one of the sources of the Jordan River emerges from
the foothills of Mount Hermon. We will then drive up on the Golan Heights—home
of many Druze people as well as the scene of fierce fighting between Israel and
Syria in 1967 and again in 1973—to enjoy a view of Mount Hermon near Har Bental.
We will return to Nof Ginosar to enjoy dinner and an evening on the
lakeshore.
Day 5: Friday, April 8 Galilee • Mount Tabor • Beth Shean •
Jericho Today begins with our first stop at a Christian baptismal site on
the Jordan River; then we will drive to Mount Tabor and study the Savior's
transfiguration. We will stop at Nain (where a widow's son was brought back to
life) at the foot of Mount Moreh on our way to visit the important historic site
of Megiddo, where we will learn of battles both ancient and future. We will next
stop at Beth Shean. At these impressive ruins we will experience the splendor of
Roman life and Hellenistic culture. We will then continue south down the Jordan
Valley and view the meandering Jordan River and the Jordan Plateau to the east
with its interesting biblical history. We will stop at Old Testament Jericho and
review some important scriptural events that took place in this area before
checking in to the International Jericho Hotel for the night.
Day 6:
Saturday, April 9 Dead Sea • Masada • Ein Gedi • Qumran • Bethany •
Jerusalem An early morning drive will take us south along the Dead Sea, the
lowest point on the earth's surface. Here we will take the cable car to the top
of Masada to see the ruins of the palace-fortress built by King Herod and to
recall the story of the Zealots' last stand against the Romans. As we drive
north, we will stop for a quick float in the Dead Sea and lunch at Ein Gedi, one
of the areas where David hid from King Saul. Then we'll drive on to Qumran, home
of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and discuss their importance on our way to Jerusalem.
We will next enjoy a brief stop in the historic Judean Wilderness, where we will
discuss the Savior's forty-day experience and temptations. We will make a brief
stop in Bethany and talk of events related to Jesus' raising Lazarus from the
dead. We will check into the Olive Tree Hotel for the rest of our time in
Jerusalem. Following dinner at the hotel, we will have our own sacrament
meeting.
Day 7: Sunday, April 10 Shephelah • Valley of Elah • Tel
Mareshah • Tel Lachish We will drive down the Bab el Wad, passing
Kirjath-Jearim as we enter the low hills west of Jerusalem called Shephelah. We
will stop atop ancient Beth Shemesh, where Israel received the lost Ark of the
Covenant back from the Philistines. We'll continue on to the Valley of Elah,
where David slew Goliath, and to the ancient Tel Mareshah and the interesting
caves and structures in the area. Our next stop is at Tel Lachish, the ancient
biblical fort city. We will return to Jerusalem, where the evening will be free
following dinner at the hotel.
Day 8: Monday, April 11 Jerusalem Our
first full day in Jerusalem will begin on the Mount of Olives, where we can view
and discuss the history of the Old City of Jerusalem. Then we will begin a
walking tour of the Old City through the Dung Gate to visit the Holy Mount and
to see the outside of the Dome of the Rock, built to honor Mohammed, Islam's
founder. Here, we will also briefly discuss the basic tenants of Islam. Then we
will stop at the Western Wall, where we will observe Jews as they participate in
morning prayers and observe Jewish bar mitzvahs at Judaism's holiest shrine. We
will visit the Ophel to examine how it looked at the time of the Savior. In the
afternoon we will visit the Jewish Quarter to see the Broad Wall and the Cardo.
There will also be time spent in the Christian Quarter as we visit the major
shrine of Christendom, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Leaving the Old City
through the Damascus Gate, we will make our first visit to Golgotha and the
Garden Tomb. Following dinner at the hotel, we will have an evening
lecture.
Day 9: Tuesday, April 12 Jerusalem As the morning begins, we
visit the Yad Vashem Memorial, the Holocaust museum, in West Jerusalem. We will
drive by the Knesset (Israel's parliament) on our way to visit the Israel
Museum, including the famous Model City of Jerusalem and the Shrine of the Book
(Dead Sea Scrolls display). The afternoon will be free for shopping.
Day
10: Wednesday, April 13 Jerusalem • Bethlehem We will begin our day with a
visit to the Benjamin Plateau, just a few miles north of Jerusalem, where we
will discuss many events of the Old Testament that took place in this area. We
will next travel south to Bethlehem, the site of the Savior's birth, and visit
the Church of the Nativity. We will then visit Shepherds' Field, overlooking
Bethlehem, and review the biblical events connected with this area in a special
late afternoon program before returning to the hotel for dinner. Following
dinner, we will have an evening lecture.
Day 11: Thursday, April 14
Jerusalem: Footsteps Today we will walk from the Mount of Olives down to
Bethphage as we focus on the events of the last week of the Savior's life,
beginning with His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We will proceed down the west
side of the Mount of Olives and stop at a view point to discuss more of the
Savior's final week. We will continue down the Mount of Olives to Gethsemane on
the way to Mount Zion and the location of the Upper Room, a reminder of the Last
Supper and the ordinance of the sacrament. At St. Peter's in Gallicantu, the
possible site of the palace of Caiaphas, we will discuss Peter and the trials of
Jesus. Our day will conclude at Golgotha, the place of the Crucifixion, and the
Garden Tomb—where we will consider the final mortal events in Jesus' life and
His Atonement.
Day 12: Friday, April 15 Jerusalem Our day in
Jerusalem will begin as we enter the Old City through Lion's Gate and go to the
site of the Pool of Bethesda and the Church of St. Anne to discuss John 5. We
will then proceed to the City of David to see the Jerusalem of Nephi's time and
walk through Hezekiah's Tunnel, a hydrological wonder of Isaiah's time. We will
also visit the true Pool of Siloam mentioned in John 9. We will change out of
our wet clothes, and the remainder of the day will be free to walk the Old City
walls, visit local museums, and visit other places of interest. In the evening
we will visit the Western Wall to observe the observant Jews usher in the
Sabbath.
Day 13: Saturday, April 16 Jerusalem We will begin our
Sabbath by attending sacrament meeting at the BYU Jerusalem Center with the
Jerusalem Branch in the center's beautiful upper auditorium, with its
spectacular view of the Holy City. Following sacrament meeting we will also
visit the Orson Hyde Memorial Garden, where we will discuss the symbolism of
Gethsemane and enjoy a view of Old Jerusalem. The early afternoon will be free
to spend in preparation for our departure from the Holy Land. Before dinner at
the hotel, we will have our farewell meeting. Following dinner, those returning
home will leave for the airport.
Day 14: Sunday, April 17 Jerusalem • Ben
Gurion Airport This day will be spent on our flight for our destinations in
the U.S.A. Those not going on the Egypt option will fly all night and arrive in

colossal statue of Ramses II, the Alabaster Sphinx, and the Lion Couches in the
ruins of the Temple of Ptah. Then we'll see the Step Pyramid of Djoser and the
Mastaba of Ti (or Ptah-Hotep). We next visit the Giza Pyramids and the
5,000-year-old Sphinx and enjoy a camel ride near these ancient structures. In
the evening, at the Heliopolis Hotel, we will discuss “Our Heritage and Ancient
Egypt.”
Day 15: Monday, April 18 Cairo • Luxor We will take an early
morning flight to Luxor and then bus to the enormous Karnak Temple for a walking
tour of the largest religious complex in the world, followed by a stop at the
Temple of Luxor. After checking in to the Steigenberger Hotel, we will have some

Necropolis, passing the Colossi of Memnon. Next we will enter the Valley of the
Kings to see the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs such as Tutankhamen, Seti I,

33, believed by some to be the place from which Joseph Smith's Abraham papyri
came. In the late afternoon we will return to Cairo and check back in to the
Heliopolis Hotel for two nights.

preparations for you, however there are still a few things you should know and
some details to take care of to ensure your comfort, safety and peace of mind.
Please review the information below to ensure that any surprises along the way
will only be pleasant ones. Airline Information Group Air Tickets
Where group flights are offered, tickets will be issued approximately 30
days prior to departure. LDS Travel Study can assist with domestic flights from
your home city to the designated international gateway city. Electronic tickets
will be issued where possible. Air Tickets Purchased Independently of the

airline tickets since departure times and flights can change. Tours may also be
cancelled due to low enrollments. LDS Travel Study does not accept liability for
cancellation penalties related to domestic or international airline tickets
purchased independently in conjunction with a tour. We recommend that you check
with us prior to purchasing any airline tickets. Seat Assignments: We
understand that your seat assignment is an important part of your tour
experience. Each airline has a different policy regarding pre-assigned seat
assignments and we are bound by their rules. LDS Travel Study will advise the
airlines of your seating preference and will do all possible to secure your seat
request. Please understand that in cases where pre-assigned seats are not
available, seats will be assigned at the airport. We recommend arriving at the
airport early to ensure the best seat selection. Frequent Flyers: We
will be happy to add your frequent flyer number to any airline reservation
created by Morris LDS Travel Study. Please understand that we are unable to
assist with securing reservations for free or reduced cost frequent flyer
tickets. Please contact your individual airline for assistance. Airline seat
assignments and flight schedules are subject to change without
notice. Baggage Most airlines, for both domestic and international
flights, now charge additional fees for checking bags. These charges are not
included in the tour price and are the traveler's responsibility. Baggage
handling is normally included in the tour price. Transfers Some
tours do not include group air service. In cases where the tour is designated as
“Land Only”, the tour begins at the airport of the arrival city and ends at the
airport of the departure city. Individual flight schedules should be coordinated
to arrive and depart in connection with the group transfer to and from the
hotel. The time of this transfer will be provided at a later date. Transfers at
other times will require an additional charge. Please contact us at 866-277-0900

those in Western Europe, China, India, Japan, Mexico, Canada and Brazil issue

“chip and PIN” card and uses different technology than the magnetic stripe cards
commonly issued in the United States. Some shops abroad can process both types
of cards. However, while traveling, you may encounter a situation where your

Israel is 8 hours ahead of Mountain Time. Gratuities Tips for your
guide and driver are included in the cost of your tour.
“Over 25 years ago, a friend of mine suggested that I travel to the
Holy Land to experience the setting of the scriptures for myself, and that if
I did, I would never read the scriptures the same way again. I was
skeptical, but the following year, my wife and I spent about two weeks in
Egypt and Israel. My friend was right, but he had understated the Holy Land's
impact on my life. I came away with a new appreciation and love for the
scriptures and for their depth and meaning. Since then, I have returned many
times to study and teach there.”
Joel was born in Salt Lake City,
Utah and grew up in West Point, Utah graduating from Davis High School. He
served an LDS mission to New England under President Truman G. Madsen. He earned
his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Sociology and Psychology at Weber State
College in 1970, and received a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology from
BYU in 1975. Since that time he has been a student of Biblical Hebrew, ancient
Near East History, and Geography of the Holy Land.
Joel, now retired,
taught in the L. D. S. Church Education System for 37 years, in Seminary in
Ogden, Utah and in Institute in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and at the Orem
Institute of Religion at Utah Valley State College. He has taught at the BYU
Jerusalem Center in Israel on three different occasions as a religion instructor
and field trip director and has directed many tours to Egypt and
Israel.
Brother Judd's church service has included Ward Young Men's
President, Sunday School President, Elder's Quorum President, Ward Executive
Secretary, Counselor in three Bishoprics, Bishop and Stake High Counselor. Joel
married Marsha Haacke in the Salt Lake Temple in 1968. They have two children
and seven grandchildren.
Testimonials: " Thank you so much for being
such an amazing and awesome tour guide. I'm positive that it was providential
that we were in your tour group! The trip was one I'd been looking forward to
for years (literally a good ten years) and it was so much better than I hoped it
would be and I attribute most of that to you being our guide. I gained so many
insights into the Scriptures, a stronger testimony of the Savior as our Savior,
and just a wonderful Arab and Israeli experience. Thank you for investing so
much to give us such a wonderful experience. I treasure my trip that we took
there. . . .".
“The gospel instruction was powerful. This was not just
sight seeing. This was an opportunity to connect doctrine with places, events,
history and archeology. The end result was a much deeper understanding and
appreciation of the life, mission and teaching of Jesus Christ. I also
appreciated the opportunity to know and understand the Palestinian people who
inhabit this land.”
“Brother Judd was very kind, patient, inspiring and
knowledgeable…. It was a special treat to be able to sing [“He is Risen”] at the
Garden Tomb and to be able to walk over to the empty sepulchre and know in your
heart that Christ had power over death and gives that gift to us
all.”
