We invite you to step back in time with tour director and CES master teacher, Ron Bartholomew, to learn about the early saints of the Church or Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the British Isles.

This tour not only walks in the footsteps of the brave missionaries sent abroad to open the gospel to Europe, but lets you spend time the great city of London seeing the history and treasures along the way.

London, England

Today, we depart the US and fly overnight to London, England.

Day 2: Sunday, June 6, 2021

London, England

Welcome to England! After clearing customs, we embark on our adventures in the United Kingdom and to the various LDS British Church History sites. We start with a panoramic sightseeing tour of London and then visit Kensington Palace. Kensington Palace is a working Royal residence of great historical importance. It was the favorite residence of successive sovereigns until 1760. It was also the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria. Today Kensington Palace accommodates the offices and private apartments of a number of members of the Royal Family. Accommodations for three nights in London.

Day 3: Monday, June 7, 2021

London, England

This morning we see the Hyde Park Chapel and Speakers' Corner. Speakers' Corner is a traditional site for public speeches and debates since the mid 1800's. Next, we see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. This afternoon we visit Westminster Abbey, which has played an integral part in the history to London and the UK for nearly 1,000 year. This glorious building manages to retain a beauty and grace despite its diversity of architectural styles. The Abbey has provided the outstanding setting for every coronation since 1066 and has witnessed many other significant occasions, such as royal weddings and the funeral of Princess Diana. Our next stop is St. Paul's Cathedral. This cathedral is one of the most prominent of London's landmarks standing near the River Thames. Visitors can climb to the top of the dome and test the acoustics in the Whispering Gallery.

Day 4: Tuesday, June 8, 2021

London, England - London Temple

Today we visit Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle has long been a Royal Residence and is now the Queen's favorite weekend retreat! We can also visit the magnificent state rooms and the newly restored St. George's Hall. This afternoon we travel to the London Temple in Surrey, England. There will be time to attend a temple session for those wishing to do so.

Day 5: Wednesday, June 9, 2021

Stonehenge - Bath

Our first stop today is Salisbury Cathedral. This cathedral is one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Britain. Started in 1220, it was completed by 1258, and the spire, the tallest in England, was added a generation later. It houses the best preserved original Magna Carta, a unique 13th century frieze of bible stories in the octagonal Chapter House, and Europe's oldest working clock. Next, we visit Stonehenge. Mysterious and magical, Stonehenge is Europe's most famous prehistoric monument, built in stages from 3,000 BC. Accommodations for one night in Bath.

Oxford - Warwick Castle

This morning we travel to Oxford to visit Christ Church College. Christ Church occupies a unique position among the colleges of Oxford University as one of the largest colleges in England's oldest University. Next, we visit Warwick Castle. Magnificent Warwick Castle is one of Britain's largest medieval fortresses. Accommodations near Warwick for two nights.

Day 7: Friday, June 11, 2021

Benbow Farm, Castle Frome - Gadfield Elm - Hertfordshire Beacon

Today we visit Benbow Farm, Castle Frome, and Herefordshire Beacon. Benbow Farm was originally the homestead of John and Jane Benbow who played a pivotal role in the conversion and baptism of all but one of the 600 members of the United Brethren's congregation. The pond, where Wilford Woodruff baptized many, is still there. Next, we visit the Gadfield Elm Chapel. This chapel acted as the focal point of Church activity for thousands of Latter-day Saints. We continue to follow in the footsteps of Wilford Woodruff, William Richards, and Brigham Young to the top of the Herefordshire Beacon. Wilford Woodruff went there to pray on several occasions. Today we learn about the faith of these early converts as they witnessed miracles and persecutions unfold in their tiny villages.

Day 8: Saturday, June 12, 2021

Liverpool - Albert Dock - Beatles Museum - Preston

This morning we continue on to Liverpool. Liverpool served as the arrival point for hundreds of missionaries and the departure point for thousands of emigrants as they gathered to Zion throughout the 19th century. We take a tour around this famous city which, besides its LDS history, has had a long association with America (including salves, cotton, Beatles, and the claim that the first and final acts of the American Civil War took place here). We visit the beautifully restored Albert Docks where we learn more about the life of an emigrant, see the Sea Trek Monument, and discover a host of famous LDS names. Next, we spend time at The Beatles Story Museum located on the historical Albert Dock. Our next stop will be 42 Islington Street in Liverpool. This was the headquarters for the British Mission and office for the Millennial Star from 1855 to 1904. En route to Preston, we see the Preston Temple and MTC. Accommodations in Preston for two nights.

Day 9: Sunday, June 13, 2021

Preston, England

Following sacrament meeting, we visit the missionary quarters on Wilfred Street. Our next site is the River Ribble, where the citizens of Preston often took Sunday strolls along the promenade leading from the city to Avenham Park. On Sunday, July 30, 1837, a crowd gathered at the river's edge curious about the baptisms taking place there. They watched George D. Watt, who had changed his clothing a short distance away, race an older gentlemen to the river, claiming the honor of being the first Latter-day Saint to be baptized in England. In 1987, a plaque commemorating the 150th anniversary of the restored gospel in England and paying tribute to the many English converts was placed in Avenham Park. We will conclude our day with an evening fireside at the hotel.

Day 10: Monday, June 14, 2021

Edinburgh, Scotland

This morning we say good-bye to England as we make our way into Scotland. Today, we embark on a day of scenery and inspiration driving through the famous Lake District. Upon arrival in Edinburgh, we visit Edinburgh Castle which is one of the most famous castles in the world, housing the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny. You can also visit the private apartments of Mary Stuart and see St. Margaret's Chapel, the oldest building in the city which dates back to the 11th century, and the 15th century gun Mons Meg. Accommodations in Edinburgh for one night.

Day 11: Tuesday, June 15, 2021

Edinburgh Airport - Home Cities

Following breakfast, we travel to Edinburgh Airport, after having a wonderful experience in the United Kingdom, we return to the U.S.
