Days 1/2 - Tuesday and Wednesday, June 22-23, 2021

Edinburgh, Scotland

We will depart the US on Tues the 22nd and arrive on Wed. On arrival at Edinburgh airport, you will be met by a local guide and coach and transferred to your hotel, with a panoramic tour of the Scottish capital en route. You will then have some free time to relax before a group dinner to get to know one another. (D)

Day 3. Thursday, June 24, 2021


This morning we will visit Edinburgh Castle. This is one of the most famous castles in the world, housing the Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny. We can also visit the private apartments of Mary Stuart; St Margaret's Chapel, the oldest building in the city which dates back to the 11th century, and the 15th century gun Mons Meg. After lunch (on your own), our touring coach and guide will transfer us along the coast to Perth, where we will stay in the charming Fishers Hotel which houses two acres of gardens and offers mountain views.

Day 4. Friday, June 25, 2021


After breakfast we will travel to the Highlands and visit the Highland Fold Museum, an open air museum partly housed in an 18th century shooting lodge. The museum features a Black House from Lewis, a clack mill, and exhibits of farming equipment. Later, we’ll visit shepherd Neil Ross on Leault Farm and experience a working sheepdog demonstration amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.

Day 5. Saturday, June 26, 2021

Culloden Moor

This morning we will visit Culloden Moor, the site of the Battle of Culloden on 16 April 1746, when the forces of Bonnie Prince Charlie were defeated by the English government army, so ending the Forty-Five Jacobite uprising. We will see the Jacobite exhibition, displays, and an audio-visual program in the visitor center.  We will also visit Elgin Cathedral, which might have been the most beautiful cathedral in Scotland and is commonly known as the Lantern of the North. Founded in 1224, it was burned down in 1390 by the infamous Alexander Stewart, the Wolf of Badenoch, after which it was modified. It fell into ruin after the Reformation. We will also have the chance to visit Johnstons Cashmere Heritage Centre.

Day 6. Sunday, June 27, 2021

Loch Ness

Today we will travel south along the banks of Loch Ness, where we will visit Urquhart Castle, one of the largest castles in Scotland which fell into decay after 1689 and was blown up in 1692 to prevent it being occupied by Jacobites. Most of the existing remains date from the 16th century and include a tower. The castle commands splendid views of the famous loch and Great Glen.

We will also visit the new eco-friendly Glencoe Visitor Centre which houses fascinating exhibitions about the area, its human and natural history and the people who use and live near it. Surrounded by towering mountains, Glencoe is one of Scotland's most spectacular places.

Day 7. Monday, June 28, 2021


Today we will return to Edinburgh. En route we will visit Stirling Castle. One of Scotland’s grandest castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture, Stirling Castle commands the countryside for many miles around. It towers over some of the most important battlefields of Scotland’s past including Stirling Bridge, the site of William Wallace’s victory over the English in 1297, and Bannockburn where Robert the Bruce defeated the same foe in the summer of 1314.
